‘Its her humour and bold honesty that make Bird so special’. THE GUARDIAN
Two-time Irish Meteor Awards winner - singer-songwriter Wallis Bird - returns with a new album, ‘Home’, set for release on 30th September via Mount Silver Records and Caroline International.
Described as a 'thank you letter' to her muse and partner, the album is a collection of songs that encompass a vast range of styles and emotions without ever sacrificing the indelible character at its center. From ‘Change’, which opens the album in a deceptively downbeat fashion before blossoming into something truly joyous, to the serene reflection of the closing ‘Seasons’, via the celebration of friendship at the heart of ‘That Leads The Way’, ‘Seasons’ and the intimate, almost R&B feel of ‘The Deep Reveal’. Wallis Bird appears utterly fearless in the passionate and frenzied ‘Control’, while the album’s title track finds her stripping things right back, singing a cappella in the Irish Sean Nós style.
The singer’s raw, honest and confessional lyrics celebrate love in its purest form. Her straightforward declaration is undeniable, from the album cover depicting the two lovers locked in an affectionate embrace, to her own words describing her artistic and personal journey, “Architect was the blueprint to this great life and musical plan I was hatching: girl meets girl, girl falls in love and happy ending ensues. ‘Home’ is the happy ending”, she explains. Its authorship is unmistakable - her mature, self-affirming songs display an unusual emotional breadth that defies any categorization./p>
In a departure from her previous releases, the album sees Wallis Bird occupying the producer’s chair and playing most of the instruments, it was largely recorded in her Berlin home studio and completed at Kleine Audiowelt, with the help of Get Well Soon long term collaborator, producer and mixer Marcus Wuest.
Having notched up memorable live performances at legendary Montreux Jazz Festival, Lowlands and Pukkelpop, as well as supporting artists such as Gabrielle, Billy Bragg, The Gossip and Anaïs Mitchell - the Berlin based songwriter has become a formidable and renowned international live act - recently playing a 12-hour non-stop gig in aid of the city’s refugee projects. Wallis Bird will play a series of intimate dates in small venues, which will see her performing at the already sold out Servants Jazz Quarters in London on September 8th before headlining the capital’s most inspirational venue The Forge on 9th November.
Injected with an aura of legitimacy, the show has already played over 160 dates across the world, culminating in appearances on American Idol and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Giving fans the unique opportunity to experience the thrill of Queen’s live show with outstanding musicianship and stunning visuals, The Queen Extravaganza is set to become the musical experience of the year.
